Mice aren’t human, but this could be important!

This month’s professional journal, Ophthalmology, compares the injection of Lucentis (ranibizumab) and Avastin (bevacizumab) into mice.

Supporting our predictions, Lucentis and Avastin had similar efficacy at suppressing subretinal neovascularization (wet macular degeneration) in mice but the effect lasted longer with Avastin.

The probable reason for this is that Avastin is a larger molecule and doesn’t disappear as quickly from the vitreous humor.
